Desktop Pet turns short videos into silent desktop pets. Your clips and the movies the app writes stay on your Mac.

1. Overview

Desktop Pet is a macOS menu-bar app. Cutout, playback, and storage all happen on your computer. There is no backend service that sees your videos.

2. Data Collection

Desktop Pet does not collect any personal data. Specifically, we do not:

  • Collect names, emails, or contact information
  • Upload, transmit, or view your source clips or pet movies
  • Use advertising SDKs or data brokers
  • Use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs

3. Data Storage

Everything Desktop Pet creates lives locally on your Mac:

  • Pet movies: HEVC-with-alpha files under ~/Library/Application Support/DesktopPet/, one movie per character.
  • Preferences: character names, positions, scale, visibility, and Open at Login state, in the app’s preferences.

The app reads the source video you pick for processing. It does not copy that source into its Application Support folder. None of this is synced or uploaded anywhere.

4. Permissions

macOS may ask for access when you import a video from a protected folder. Cutout and tracking use Apple’s on-device Vision framework. No network call is involved in processing.

5. Network Access

Desktop Pet makes one kind of outbound connection:

  • Update checks. The app uses Sparkle to check our update feed for new versions. This only sends your current app version, not personal data, unless you explicitly opt in to Sparkle’s anonymous system-profile sharing, which is off by default.

6. Third-Party Services

Desktop Pet bundles one on-device, open-source component:

  • Sparkle handles update checks, as described above.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.

7. Your Control

You’re in full control of your data at all times.

  • Delete a character from the menu to remove that pet movie from disk.
  • Uninstall the app and remove ~/Library/Application Support/DesktopPet to erase everything Desktop Pet has stored.

8. Children’s Privacy

Desktop Pet is a general-purpose utility for a general audience and is not directed at children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect improvements or changes in functionality. If we do, we’ll update the Effective Date at the top of this page.
